V-Festival tent collection

After the V-Festival at Weston Park in August, our club assists the Rotary Club of Brewood with collecting tents and other abandoned equipment. Around 20,000 tents are left and we aim to gather as many as we can before the bulldozers are sent in to clear it all away. In 2013 and 2014 we were part of the volunteer army which collected around 5,000 tents, wellies, chairs and sleeping bags.

The saved equipment is given to International Aid Trust, a charity which cleans, packs and distributes the equipment either to families made homeless by natural disasters or if the tents are smaller and lighter they are used as holiday accommodation for deprived people, giving them a break from the misery of daily survival.

We need volunteers for August 2015. If you are reasonably fit and able and would like to help us to dismantle tents please get in touch via our contact us page on this site.

The more volunteers we have, the more tents we can save from destruction. It is a shocking but very rewarding exercise. 2015's dates (to be confirmed) are expected to be August 24th 4pm onwards, and the morning of the 25th, 9:00am on.

Please note: you must contact us first to register your interest. There is a short accreditation process to be completed before you can come as guests of our club.

Starter Box Project

Leaving home and living independently for the first time is an exciting and challenging time for a young adult and especially so if he or she is leaving Care rather than a settled family situation. Their set-up grant covers the purchase of basic furniture and equipment. They need smaller items like cutlery, crockery, bedding etc. and this is where we can help to make that grant go further.

A new Starter Box scheme, devised by The Rotary Club of Albrighton and District in conjunction with Social Services, supplies good quality second-hand household items to care-leavers. We rely on donated items to fill the boxes which are issued by Social Services as required.

We would appreciate it if you would help the less fortunate to get a good start to their adult life by looking out any of these that you no longer use.

If you can donate any of the following, please get in touch with us via the contact page above:

Knives, forks and spoons

Plates, dishes, mugs, drinking glasses, teapot, measuring jug, scourers, scissors, chopping board, can opener, cooking pots

Tea-towels, towels, dusters, screwdrivers, hammers, light bulbs

Duvets, duvet covers, sheets, pillows and pillow cases.  Other items may be considered please let us know what you have.
